Can You Get Rid of an Ocean Spa Resort Timeshare?

Ocean Spa Resort, or Ocean Spa Hotel, is a resort located in Cancun, Mexico, that offers its own timeshare program. It is owned and managed by the Vacation Store of Miami.

If you own a timeshare with Ocean Spa Resort, and have been seeking to get out of it, you may have one of several reasons for wanting to do so. Reviews of this hotel and resort most often cite mediocre properties, high-pressure sales presentations, bait-and-switch tactics, poor customer service and failure to issue refunds as promised as reasons for wanting to get away from this property. Some of the more notable reviews and complaints we discovered are below.

From TripAdvisor:

  • “My sister won this trip so we weren’t aware up front that we had to go to a presentation. … Presentation: VERY FORCEFUL — DIDN’T THINK THEY WOULD LET US LEAVE UNTIL WE BOUGHT! We were told presentation would be 90 minutes. An hour into the preliminaries (breakfast), we were told “the 90 minutes starts now.” Two and a half hours later — after saying “no” for the 50th time — the “bad cop” comes over with an even better deal. … When that didn’t work, we thought they finally were getting the idea and would release us from our bondage; however, they sat us down with yet a third person who tried to woo us with another trip (presentation included, of course): an all-inclusive week for $1000 or non-inclusive for $300. And they wanted the money up front.
  • “Booked family vacation through special offer from corporate vacation fax. IRR Marketing Co. misrepresented hotel and location of hotels. We were told we would be staying at either Sunset Royal or Sunset Lagoon, only to discover that we had been down graded to the Ocean Hotel because of the size of our party. … Time share tour was horrible. I explained the deceptive marketing tactics and was told we should not have expected those hotels for the price we had paid for the corporate vacation package and that we should not hold it against the hotel for the marketers sales tackets [sic]. Representative kept referring to the Ocean Hotel as a less than standard hotel that had no association with the Sunset Hotels, which I discovered later had no truth to it. After several managers tried different sales approaches on us, my husband got angry and got into an argument with a Closer Manager who finally asked us to leave.”

From Yelp:

  • “This is the worst hotel i’ve ever stayed at. … Only good thing about this place is that the staff is friendly … We ended up switching hotels and letting them keep our money. To top it off, the manager tried to scam us out of $400 USD by making up some BS story about the hotel switch. I was never informed for of that so i didnt pay and she never contacted again. In short, save your money and go somewhere else. Didn’t even want to take pictures.”
  • “My friend was invited to stay there to attend a timeshare presentation, so you would think they would be on their best behavior in that early stage of soliciting potential business. Instead, they SCAMMed me from the minute I arrived, presenting documents they said were for check in purposes only, when they knew we had just gotten off a redeye flight and had only minutes to catch our ride to an all day Chichen Itza tour. It was later revealed that the documents were to LOCK me in to the same timeshare presentation that my friend had agreed only for herself to go to.  They have never said that her guest had to attend as well – until days after check in, on the night before the presentation. I already had another tour booked for that time, but they refuse to make any accommodations nor acknowledge that they tricked us into signing one more person up to their presentation. Should I have read every word of the document carefully before I signed? Definitely. But, would most people expect that any legitimate business would try to ‘sneak in’ a document that locks you into an entirely different thing than what it was presented as (a simple check in document)?  This place looks like a 4-star hotel, but behaves like a no-star, no-class motel from hell.”

To add to this, the managing company, the Vacation Store of Miami, has a reputation for using  bait-and-switch practices that lead people to pay for hotel and timeshare reservations that they never end up getting to use. So if you feel that you were pressured into a less-than-ideal timeshare ownership by sales presentations or practices like these, you do have options. There are ways to cancel Ocean Spa Resort timeshare.

Ocean Spa Resort Official Timeshare Exit Program

While exploring Ocean Spa Resort’s website, we searched for information on their timeshare program and any official timeshare exit details. Unfortunately, we were unable to find either. Considering this, if you still wanted to get in touch with the resort about your situation, you could use the email and phone information on the Contact Us page to get started.

We should note that this information will connect you to the Vacation Store of Miami, whose contact information can also be found on their official website. Again, they do not list any timeshare-specific information, but they do have a phone number and email address listed for any inquiries.

Working With a Timeshare Exit Company

Since the Vacation Store of Miami is known for notoriously fraudulent practices, and by proxy Ocean Spa Resort would fall into the same category, we would recommend going a different route than direct contact to get rid of Ocean Spa Resort timeshare. Finding a reputable timeshare exit company could be the option that helps you get what you need. Timeshare exit companies work directly with the resort on your behalf, and oftentimes either have lawyers on staff or work with law firms in order to cancel all of your remaining fees and release you from your contract.

There is a big industry for timeshare exit, so that means you have to be careful when you’re looking for a company to work with. Not only should the company you choose have a solid reputation, but they should also use escrow for payment. This means that the company does not get paid until your timeshare has been completely canceled. You can learn more about why escrow is important on this page.

A few other qualities you should look for in a timeshare exit company include the following:

  • An A (or higher) rating with the BBB and few complaints
  • Several years in business
  • A physical office address rather than a PO box
  • A professional-looking website
  • A written contract for any services rendered

There are a number of companies out there that fit this description, and we created this website in order to connect people with them. You can review a list of our recommended companies on this page. All of these companies have an excellent track record of success in getting people out of their contracts with resorts like Ocean Spa Resort, and have proven themselves legitimate and trustworthy.
