Canto del Sol is a resort located in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. They are part of Villas Vallarta, and a larger family of hotels called Canto Vallarta; their timeshare program is owned by RCI, the world’s largest timeshare company.

If you are a timeshare owner with Canto del Sol, and you’ve been searching for ways to cancel your timeshare, you may have several reasons for wanting to do so. When we looked into why people wanted to get out of Canto del Sol timeshare, the following reasons were most prominent:

    • Poor customer service and inattentive management
    • Pushy, high-pressure sales presentations
    • Properties that are not very well-maintained

Further research led us to find several negative reviews and ratings for Canto del Sol, including 3 stars on Yelp and several recent 1-star TripAdvisor reviews. The most noteworthy complaints are below.

    From Yelp:

    • “First off, I booked the trip to be all inclusive, but when I checked in they told me I did not have the all-inclusive package. They offered it to me, but it wasn’t worth it because it was cheaper to eat and drink elsewhere. We did have the breakfast buffet one day and it was mediocre at best. The worst part is how pushy the staff was when trying to get my family to sit and listen to their timeshare presentation. Originally we were told it would be a 60-minute presentation, but then the paperwork said 90 minutes. We declined to listen after that and tried to go about our business by the pool, but multiple managers on staff kept pestering us and begging to listen to the presentation. We then had to take some emergency family phone calls and the staff were STILL BOTHERING US while we were trying to deal with a family emergency back home. It was extremely rude and annoying and I was unable to relax or focus the rest of the day. I kept politely asking them to leave us alone but they wouldn’t take no for an answer. I’m a very mellow guy, but they were getting under my skin, I almost snapped. Needless to say, I made it a point to avoid the staff as much as possible for the rest of the trip.”

    From TripAdvisor:

    • “Exchanged via RCI for a week at Canto Del sol, luckily it was before the Mexican season. The hotel was fairly empty, so service was never a problem. We got a nice suite overlooking the ocean which was also nice. The down … we got suckered into going to ‘The Presentation’ and for some reason got hooked into a deal for them to buy our existing timeshare and we would buy theres at Canto. Red Light … we didnt like it that much from the start so why would we want to buy there? The [sic] prompted it as an investment where they would rent our weeks and we could make money. Red Light … if its too good to be true its a scam. Long story short, a vacation of misery and months of misery we are finally out of the deal. Timeshares are scams and NEVER worth whatever the incentives are to sit thru the dog & pony show. Now to my assessment of PV … I have been to Cabo, Mazatlan, Acapulco, Cancun, and Playa Del Carmen and loved them all for their uniqueness and beauty even if there were a few downs. PV on the other hand is a stink hole. I believe the water there is full of sewage. My son got a horrible rash in the ocean there as did all of us on a snorkel trip. The city stinks, the tours are a rip off, and the prices are outrageous. I will NEVER go back to PV.”
    • “Usually if I have an average to bad experience I simply leave without a word and never come back. However, my experience was beyond that and I feel a sense of responsibility to warn other travelers. The check-in was hectic and unwelcoming. The [sic] wasn’t any safety/COVID protocols in place to avoid spreading the virus. There wasn’t anyone checking temperatures or providing anti bacterial lotion. There wasn’t any social distancing around the common areas. So a sketchy experience to begin with.”

So if you are searching for a way to get out of Canto del Sol timeshare, you aren’t alone and definitely have some options to do so.

Canto del Sol Official Exit Program

As with many similar resorts, it is difficult to find timeshare-related information on Canto del Sol’s official website. We did not, in fact, find any, nor could we find much related to canceling or returning a timeshare through their customer service department. The most direct route to anything close to an official exit program is through the RCI website. Searching Google for “Canto del Sol timeshare” will get you to this means of communication; it should be the third result of your search. There’s also an email address on the Canto del Sol home page — in the footer — that could possibly connect you to their customer service department.

However, all of this indicates that you will most likely want to go a different route to get out of your Canto del Sol timeshare. Fortunately, resale, working with a broker, or hiring a timeshare exit company are all available routes for you.

Cancel Canto del Sol Timeshare Through Resale

Selling your Canto del Sol timeshare on the resale market is one option you might pursue. Generally, this is only possible if you do not owe a mortgage. Our recommendations are the following low-cost resale platforms for anyone looking to get rid of Canto del Sol timeshare:

    • Craigslist (free)
    • Ebay ($50)
    • Myresortnetwork.com ($34.95)
    • tug2.com ($15/year membership)
    • Redweek.com ($59.99 – $125)

Finding a buyer on one of these platforms can save you the costs involved in hiring a timeshare resale broker, as you’ll go through the process on your own. However, that means you will have to figure out how to transfer the timeshare to the buyer on your own as well. This can be a challenge.

If you use a licensed timeshare broker instead, it can be an easier and less stressful road to get rid of Canto del Sol timeshare, because they will do the work of finding a buyer for you. However, they will most likely take around 50% of the final sales price as commission.

Working with a Timeshare Exit Company

Hiring a timeshare exit company may be a more expensive route, but in many cases it can be a more complete solution. Reputable timeshare exit companies work directly with resorts to release people from their contracts and cancel any remaining fees they have.

We only recommend timeshare exit companies that have a solid track record of getting people out of timeshares, and that exclusively use escrow for payment. Escrow is important because it means that the company doesn’t get paid until you’ve been released from your contract and are completely satisfied with their work. You can learn more about why escrow is important on this page.
